Rugby Union with Mellish RFC   Leave a comment

Here’s a sport that’s not for the faint hearted and one I’ve never shot before. I drove over to The Mellish RFC this afternoon just as the skies were darkening to see what I could learn as a photographer when shooting this sport. I learned that:

1) Even with a 400mm lens you can still be far too far away.

2) When you are zoomed in and players run speedily toward you then you need to remember (stupid) to start zooming out again.

3) A great action shot that doesn’t include the ball is not a great action shot.

I had a great time and I’m looking forward to getting over to the Mellish ground again sometime soon.

Line out

Line out.

Break away try

A break away try after an interception. He’s a happy chappie.

Yes, it was as cold as it looks and pretty dark for mid afternoon.
